What LSU is getting in latest transfer defensive line commitment

Rated as a three-star transfer defensive line target and the No. 72 player at his position in the class of 2024, the commitment itself doesn’t immediately pop as a top land for coach Kelly and his squad for the upcoming season.

However, his transfer rating doesn’t exactly show the whole story. Coming out of the Division II ranks, there’s plenty of unknown when it comes to the the 6-foot-3, 282-pounder out of Clarkston, MI. With that said, what is known is the fact that he’s more than capable of producing along the defensive interior, having recorded 42 tackles, 14.5 tackles for loss, eight sacks, nine pass deflections and two forced fumbles over the last two seasons with the Lakers.

While there’s no guarantees in bringing him to Baton Rouge can do for the program, he’s a high floor commitment that has the potential to be one of the more underrated additions of the offseason.

An updated look at the 2024 Tiger defensive interior

In terms of where the entire LSU football defensive line stands today, top end depth no longer appears to be the major concern that it was just one week ago.

Heading into Wednesday, the only experience the Tigers had within their position room was with 5th-year Jacobian Guillory, senior Jalen Lee and former Wisconsin Badger Gio Paez.

However, with the most recent addition of transfer defensive line commitment Jay’viar Suggs, things are starting to move in a very positive direction for the purple and gold along the line of scrimmage.

Not only that, but with high-potential incoming freshmen Dominick McKinley, Ahmad Breaux and De’Myrion Johnson, it’s really starting to become a matter of who can step up rather than if anyone can.

While defensive line coach Bo Davis likely still has plenty of work to do with the group ahead of the 2024 college football season, he at the very least has plenty of pieces to work with as we move into summer camp. Until then, LSU football has finally landed their transfer portal defensive lineman and Tiger fans have every reason to at the very least feel optimistic about seeing improvement on defense going forward.
